Problem
Cresco, which is the largest developer in Slovakia, invested significant time and money in developing a custom software platform. However, the implementation of this tool took longer than expected. At some point, Cresco decided to stop the initiative, save resources, and not reinvent the wheel.
Solution
Cresco decided to migrate from custom development to ready-to-use Realpad. A convenient software solution designed to automate the sales process of new-build homes. Comparison of custom-made solutions and Realpad
Based on the experience we gained across 12 real estate markets and our six years of experience running an IT software agency focused on building custom-made solutions, the aspects we always recommend considering:
  1. PRICE: Generally, customers spend much more on a custom-made solution. Although such projects and related fees are often expected to have a well-defined beginning and end, it is not valid. In the beginning, it is necessary to invest a way higher amount of money with the expectation that the whole project is covered. However, since the product won't evolve or get upgraded automatically after the delivery, further costs are inevitable. For our annual license fee, our customers receive a guarantee that our primary goal is to build a long-term cooperation. The price includes technical support and continuous system development to keep up with market changes. In addition, we allocate 400+ programming hours per year to modifications from feedback from more than 120 RE developers.
  2. SCALABILITY: After about five years of using a certain custom-made solution, it won't longer meet all the requirements because the business and the market are changing, as does the team and internal processes. To keep up, reinvestment is inevitable in the development of the system. To mention a specific example: let's imagine that GDPR has just come into effect. It’s needed to call the IT software company and tell them what changed and what needs to be adjusted to meet these requirements. Our system is constantly evolving thanks to our ability to recycle developments/new features and functions among our customers. To keep up with such regulatory changes that affect all of our customers, we implement the adjustments free of charge so that everything is ready and our customers don't have to worry about any problems.
  3. TIME: With a custom-made solution, it is necessary to allocate the time of colleagues to explain to the software company not only the expectations but, above all, the specifics of residential developments. These companies develop software for companies regardless of their industries, they usually do not understand the business specifics, which is reflected in the phase of the actual use of the system and the need for technical support, resulting in more consultation fees. With our team at Realpad, we have been through this process countless times. We work as equal partners representing our experience in the field.
  4. SUPPORT: We know that companies that built their solutions had to allocate at least one colleague who basically "interpreted" users' requirements to the IT software company or operated as an internal administrator and solved these colleagues' requests themselves.
